Two highly addictive things come from Mexico, the US and Southeast Asia. The first is illegal and the second is street food. Tacos, guacamoles, satays, yakitoris, baos, fried clams, lobster rolls… Cartel is our tribute to these epicurean delights, served at charming (albeit often sketchy) sidewalk carts, roadside shacks and neighborhood bars.
Why not open a taco truck or a hawker stall, you may ask? Because street food also happens to be the best damn bar food one can possibly have. If you have ever spent time at a bustling tapas hangout in Barcelona, a taco bar in LA or at a sake-scented Izekaya joint in Tokyo, you know exactly what we mean. Cartel offers you a menu composed exclusively of small plates (real tapas-size), and a selection of rums, tequilas, scotches, bourbons, local and imported beers, discovery wines, sakes and riffs on classic cocktails (margaritas, mojitos, caipirinhas…) to complement your feasts.
We also believe that addictive things have a high degree of purity. We stay away from fusion and we seek authenticity. Our recipes are steeped in tradition and prepared with real food. We use hormone and antibiotic-free chicken and pork, as well as grass-fed beef. Our bar has no soda guns with concentrates, and we only pour real drinks mixed with natural bottled sodas and juices.
At Cartel, we like it real. Stop by at any time (except breakfast!) and let us corrupt you a little.
